Biomedical Electronics Technology TC = Technical Certificate | 1 year (Three Semesters)

Now more than ever, hospitals and other medical facilities need technicians to repair and maintain medical equipment.

The program is a post-associate degree completion program that prepares students for entry-level positions as biomedical electronics technicians. A minimum of an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Automation and Systems Integration with Electronics emphasis or an approved equivalent AAS degree in Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology, or related degree field is required for admission to this challenging program.

The program is designed to prepare students with the technical content for the Biomedical Electronics Technician (BMET) Certification Examination offered by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).

Arkansas Future Grant

This program is Arkansas Future Grant eligible, which means the grant may cover tuition and fees.

Transfer or Stackable Options

This degree is designed to get graduates into a rewarding career but can be transferable into a bachelor of applied science program at a four-year institution. Students planning to transfer should work closely with an advisor.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate the how medical equipment processes interact with the human body
  • Understand the principles and methods of safety and operational tests and the use of test results in order to improve processes and ensure that equipment is functioning properly and safely with appropriate documentation
  • Understand the systems for which information technology principles are applied to medical equipment systems including data security and privacy standards
  • Know the potential unsafe conditions related to the use of medical equipment and systems, preventative and corrective actions including risk mitigation
